Inspired by a lifelong fascination with abstract shapes seen directly in nature, like cast shadows, reflections, silhouettes, and clouds, Rene Griffith uses abstract painting as a vehicle for visual storytelling. Using an assemblage of printed material from the past, such as postcards, maps, stamps, letters, magazine ads, wallpapers, and paint, she creates images that evoke feelings and memories. As a result, her mixed-media art is often reminiscent of an earlier era yet unmistakably contemporary. She says, “My intention is to create modern art filled with layers of history and texture that allows the viewer to complete the story by interpreting the painting through their own lens and experience.”
